When you apply for a loan, banks check your history with a Credit Reference Bureau (CRB). You have the right to see your own report.
Uganda's licensed credit bureaus
All licensed by the Bank of Uganda:
- Creditinfo Uganda (formerly Compuscan)
- Metropol Uganda
- GnuGrid CRB
You get one free report per year
Every borrower is entitled to one free credit report each year from each bureau.
How to get your credit report
- Visit the bureau's website or office (e.g. Creditinfo Uganda).
- Fill in the request form.
- Attach a copy of your National ID (and Financial Card number if you have one).
- Receive your report, usually as a PDF by email.
Warning: USSD codes you see online for checking CRB (like Metropol's *433#) are for Kenya, not Uganda.
Wrong information on your report?
Write to the bureau with evidence (e.g. a loan clearance letter). The bureau and the lender must investigate and correct errors. If it isn't resolved, complain to the Bank of Uganda.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a loan if I'm listed on CRB?
A negative listing makes it harder, but clearing the debt and getting a clearance letter improves your record over time.
